This highly stylized form seems to be a complex arrangement of folded fabric draped over a chalice that is mounted on four legs and is glazed in subtle but glorious shades of grey-green, ash-brown, and purple. Four turquoise ceramic cabochons are inset around the neck and four ruby glass cabochons applied to the feet. A rare example of Joseph Mougin's early Parisian studio work, executed before he and his brother Pierre returned to their birthplace, Nancy, France.

Signature: Incised J. Mougin.
