Gather 'Round II is constructed using discarded books from public libraries and schools. The single fold method is used throughout. The books with 500 or more pages form a complete circle when folded. Fewer pages make three quarter circles or half circles. Artist Joy Campbell frequently uses the design that requires her to "nest" two half circles together or a half circle with a three quarter circle. The patina of the books is the result of the aging process; no paint or lacquer has been used. The tall books are held in place with long nails that are inserted into the spines of the books from the back. Smaller books are glued to the black backing. All of the nails which you can see have been rusted and inserted into the tops of the book spines and are for decoration only. The frame is wooden with a rustic looking trim that resembles nail heads which complements the nail heads in the books. It is wired for hanging on a wall.
