Worms was a noted painter of genre scenes, as well as an engraver and illustrator. Worms began his art studies under Lafosse, then later worked at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1859. Worms visited Spain in 1863 and afterwards painted several Spanish genre subjects, such as The Visit. Meticulously rendered in fine brush strokes and a gem-like color palette, Worms delights the viewer with a chivalrous image of a Spanish maiden visited by a gallant soldier.
