About Julia Fish
In small, quiet paintings and drawings, Julia Fish depicts abstract compositions, derived from visual details around her home, studio, and garden. Her “Threshold” series comprises paintings of the spaces between rooms in her home—where tile flooring meets linoleum, for example. She has also produced studies of staircases and landings, slowly building up layers of thinned paint to produce delicate renderings; “the images translate my experience of these transitional spaces in visual and conceptual terms,” she has said. Fish’s earlier paintings focused on imagery from the natural world, including clouds, snow, frost, and vines.
