About Julian Jackson

Tracing his artistic roots to Abstract Expressionism, Julian Jackson explores light and color in his own abstract oil-on-wood paintings. As he describes: “The elusive nature of light has been my subject now for more than ten years and I have come to embrace this ephemerality with its attendant ambiguities as the core of my painting practice.” Likening the range of colors he explores to changing moods, and his paintings to favorite places that can be continually revisited, Jackson aims to make his work appear as immaterial as possible. He makes the wood panels that serve as the ground for his compositions, covering their surfaces with thin washes of oil paint that bear only minimal traces of his brushwork, mimicking the quality of light itself.
