The famous German painter of late Romanticism and Biedermeier Ludwig Richter (1803-1884) was forced to give up his work as an artist and teacher at the Dresden Academy of Art and withdraw due to eye problems in old age. In 1878 he also left the Academic Council, which expressed thanks and recognition for his work with these calligraphically decorated verses by Julius Hübner.
