The lovingly executed drawing shows the youngest son of the artist, Martin Hübner (1846-1908) at the age of three. His arms resting on a table, he reaches into the lush splendour of curls and gazes dreamily at an open book. Included is a small pen lithograph with the same motif, but with a different posture and hairstyle.

Signature: inscribed and dated at upper right: "21 feb. 49th Martin", with a lithograph, inscribed: "without correction."
