The unique shape of this African Vase consists of a small foot supporting a half-sphere base, which in turn is topped with two rounded walls that meet at the out edges o the work. The effect is an oval shaped rim that has pointed ends. The piece has been glazed largely in black, but some areas appear to be iridescent, shades of blue appearing in the light. The black is also alternated with orange-red vertical stripes on the two walls, a patterning which quotes the colorful styles of African wax printed fabrics.
