In Karl Scheid’s Elegant Bowl, the lower portion of the outer wall is glazed in matte brown-black that has been faintly striated with infinitesimal lines of a lighter glaze. The upper portion of the body has been covered with a contrasting band of pure white, while the bowl’s inside is glazed in the same warm-toned black as the lower body. The silhouette is very simply and subdued, the white band jutting out only slightly farther than the area of black glaze. The bowl sits upon a small round foot.
