About Kate Levant

While studying at Yale, Kate Levant became interested in the act of donating blood and, as she states, “how such a personal thing for a donor has an immediate anonymity.” It was from this idea that her participatory work, Blood Drive compromised by Kate Levant (2009), was born, for which Levant staged her own blood drive in a gallery in the heart of Chelsea. More recently, she has created collages of paper, photographs, and plastic that she camouflages and weaves into fabric, as in Strip Encryption (2011).
