About Kathrin Kunz
In a manner that resembles and references photographic processes, Kathrin Kunz’s graphite and chalk drawings on paper investigate the limits of the image as both documentation and physical object. Pressing black pastel chalk or graphite into paper with cotton wool, Kunz presents photorealistic objects amidst abstract gestures, visually referencing formalist photography and its ability to render real objects—a building wall, a rippling surface—in near-total abstraction.
