About Katrine Helmersson

Ceramicist and sculptor Katrine Helmersson balances opposites in her delicately crafted works. Helmersson uses a diverse array of materials to fabricate forms derived from the natural world, such as leaves and flowers, realizing each detail and layer with intricate attention and care. Although her meticulously constructed sculptures are replete with dainty flora, she applies dark patinas to the works that lend them a hefty and sturdy appearance. Additional contrasts in materials create further tension, as less secure elements such as paper and delicate stoneware ceramics are contrasted with more robust materials such as bronze and iron.
