Limited Edition: 2000. This uncommon vintage [1999] early KAWS limited edition softcover book with stiff wraps and French folded flaps is a rare early monograph on KAWS published by Colette in France. It was published in a stated edition of only 2000, so it is rare and collectible - especially stateside. It features a table of contents, followed by 31 full page color illustrations. The last end page expressly states that it was published in a limited edition of only 2000. Published in France, and especially uncommon stateside. Other than minor shelf wear and age wear, it is in very good vintage condition. Excellent provenance: Acquired from the personal collection of art critic Anthony Haden-Guest, an early follower/supporter of KAWS.

Publisher: Published by Colette and printed by La Publigraphie, Paris, France

Acquired from the book collection of art critic Anthony Haden-Guest, New York.

About KAWS

“KAWS” is a graffiti artist, illustrator, painter, sculptor, product designer, and toymaker. His cartoonish style—including his best-known characters with X-ed out eyes—has its roots in his early career as a street artist, when he began replacing advertisements with his own, masterful acrylic paintings in the early 1990s. Since, KAWS has embraced the commercialist spirit of Claes Oldenburg and Takashi Murakami, designing everything from Kanye West album covers to Nike sneakers. Avoiding the distinction between products and art objects, KAWS has shown his work increasingly in galleries and museums over the past decade; some of his most famous images are reimagined versions of pop characters like Mickey Mouse and the Michelin Man.
