Recognized foremost as an architect, Keiji Ashizawa has run an eponymous firm in Tokyo since 2005, where he also designs furniture, lighting, and interiors. Ashizawa prioritizes functionality, and his aesthetic is spare. His buildings, which often feature skylights, interior courtyards, and unexpected volume, are raked with dramatic light. Many of his interior pieces are almost clinical-looking, fabricated in white-coated aluminum. “Honest design,” Ashizawa says, “is what we try to pursue by logical thinking.”
