About Kelsey Henderson
Working with a desaturated, often muted color palette, Kelsey Henderson paints large-scale, hyperrealist portraits that favor vulnerability and imperfection, and which cull inspiration and subject matter from online and social-media platforms. Whereas Henderson previously avoided creating explicitly sexual nudes, her more recent works, like her “Dull the Will” series, attain a heightened intimacy and explore the idea of the “platonic crush.” With an attraction to beauty that celebrates flaws and rawness, Henderson renders her figures nearly translucent, making bruises, scars, veins, and other blemishes more prominent.
