About Korakrit Arunanondchai

In his wide-ranging practice, Bangkok-raised artist Korakrit Arunanondchai puts a premium on collaboration—whether it’s photographing fellow downtown characters or combining music, video, and performance. Arunanondchai discovered art in high school, when he saw Olafur Eliasson’s Sun on a visit to London; soon after he moved to the U.S. to attend RISD and Columbia, where he studied under Rirkrit Tiravanija. Along with his blends of pop culture and music—he had a close call with rock stardom in his native Thailand—Arunanondchai cites a range of artistic references, from a remix of Hieronymous Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights and a feature film featuring Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty to a series of paintings based on an act from Thailand’s Got Talent.
