About Kristen Garneau

Inspired by the traditions of landscape painting, Kristen Garneau paints impressionistic renderings of her dramatic Californian surroundings. Garneau cites figures such as George Inness as influences, but uses the diverse environment of her Bay Area home as inspiration, painting the westernmost part of the United States in a loose style. She pairs gestural painting with a vibrant use of color that channels the light and palette of different locales: the Central Valley is rendered in sunburnt browns, oranges, and yellows, while the coastal areas are colored by foggier grays, greens, and blues.
