Kristian Krokfors, ‘Roof Garden’, 2015, PRATT CONTEMPORARY / PRATT EDITIONS

Kristian Krokfors was born in Finland in 1952. From 1973-74 he studied art at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. In 1974 he moved to England to study at Leicester Polytechnic, where he received his BA in 1977. From 1977-78 he completed the Advanced Printmaking Course at Croydon College of Art before returning to Helsinki, where he continues to live and work.
In 1985 Krokfors received Finland’s Young Artist of the Year Award, a prestigious national event organised by the City of Tampere and the Tampere Art Museum. From 1988-90 he spent two years living and working in New York City and in 2001 he returned as artist-in-residence under the auspices of the Finnish Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Cultural Institute for Finland in the USA.
His work has been exhibited widely and in September 2015 Bukowski’s Helsinki gave him a major restrospective, which included works from his early career along with a new collection made for the exhixbition.
A book on his work was published by PARVS Publishing, Helsinki in 2016. A special edition of this publication includes a signed limited edition screenprint.
Krokfors’ work is in a number of private and public collections including The Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, Finland; The Amos Anderson Art Museum, Finland; Tampere Art Museum, Finland; Albertina Collection, Vienna, Austria; Chicago Art Institute, USA; University College Dublin, Ireland; The State Collection, Sweden; City of Nurnberg, Germany.
