Kristin Texeira, ‘The Piano Player at Wash Square’, 2017, CMA: Benefit Auction 2017

Framed Dimensions: 27" x 21"

Kristin Texeira
Kristin Texeira experiences the world through color; her paintings record her encounters with the poetics of a certain place and time. Describing her work as ‘nostalgic’, Texeira retells stories through various methods of mark-making using paint, collage, sketching and writing. Through subtle shifts in colors or ranges of contrasting colors, she attempts to create something familiar, and—at the same time—something entirely elusive and intangible, like a forgotten word on the tip of one's tongue. She often juxtaposes her ‘memory maps’ with short captions that form the foundation for the colors she mixes. Texeira graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2010 and has been awarded residencies in the U.S. and abroad. She has exhibited across the country and abroad and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
