The picture represents a fragment of a body, which is kind of squeezed into a narrow rectangle of a paper sheet. The uncomfortably tense posture of the body and the raised arms are associated with the state of opposition and defence. In this way the artist polemicizes with the representation of the naked female body in the history of art: an erotic image meant to please the eyes is replaced by a psychologized expression of the woman’s own experiences.
