Kristina Alisauskaite, ‘Scene’, 2017, The Rooster Gallery

As the title implies, the painting represents a generalized stage design with hints of figures painted in almost monochromatic colours. Although the motif seems visually familiar and seen before, it does not refer to anything concrete. It remains unclear if this structure is real or if it is a model, and the represented shapes become once material and tangible, once illusory and blurred. The scene and the presumed action become a symbol of imagination, which gives birth to images, plots and stories in the viewer’s mind.
