About Kristina Jansson
Frequently alluding to Germanic and Nordic literary traditions, Kristina Jansson’s representational paintings are both precise and factually indistinct. Jansson’s subject matter includes rural and urban landscapes and human figures, both as individuals and in groups. Although they tend toward clear figuration, the worlds she depicts encompass and sometimes compress historical eras and social milieus. The artist’s expressionistic style and gestural brushwork further disrupt the sense of representational realism. Acidic color schemes and drips of paint descending the canvases render her work as meditations on style and mood rather than documents.
