Handprinted leather bowls made by use of the 'vegetable tanning-method', which is an artisan tradition the Tuscan tanneries have handed down from father to son for centuries.
The transformation from raw hides into a material that will resist throughout time is a process that slowly happens into wooden drums, in full respect of man and the environment. An astonishing process based on the use of natural tannins extracted from trees, on modern technologies and machineries and on the slow passing of time.
ONOFF reflects the experimental, playful yet meticulous artistic approach of designers Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo. The exhibited works include the Travertino objects - a series of stools and bowls that highlight the material quality not only through the boxy, cylindrical composition but by subverting traditional finishing processes and integrating colour. As with the hand dyed leather bowls or lamps with painted bulbs, the seemingly random colour burst are achieved through a multi-layered, non-reversible process that is built up one step at the time. Kueng Caputo's material adventures are often rooted in the complexities of crafts techniques, which are reconfigured to explore new dynamics between the minimal, the exuberant and the unexpected.
Kueng Caputo consists of Sarah Kueng (1981) and Lovis Caputo (1982). The studio is based in Zürich, Switzerland. Kueng Caputo have worked together since they were both students of design at the HGKZ Zurich from 2004 to 2008.

For Etage Projects, Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo have created a new series of objects and screen prints that play with the temporal properties of natural light on reflective surfaces. The retro-reflective material triggers unexpected perceptions of shapes and volumes, and emphases your own position in space.The reflection is about a personal point of view. As an individual you find your own ONOFF point, that is as personal and complex as your own ability to linger in the gray area between ON and OFF.
