Film/video maker, photographer and interactive installation artist Lana Z Caplan uses digitally generated realities, landscape referent projections, historic photo processes, internet images, multi-channel and interactive installations to comment on technology and transform its subject. “Primary” is part of a series called “The Unfinished Volume: California Archive” inspired by her move to California from NYC three years ago to teach at University of California San Diego. This series uses the language of representation to play on Southern California both as a source for the original photographs and as a conceptually rich terrain of cultural artificiality. Caplan is currently an Assistant Professor of Photography and Video at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
