About Lauren Luloff
Lauren Luloff layers collaged fabric and paint onto bed sheets, creating delicate yet expressive paintings. For Luloff, the sheets reference “home, intimacy, dreams, and drama” and imbue her works with a host of formal qualities, “their crumpling acting as an impasto swoosh, or creating chiaroscuro,” she says. “Patterns from the sheets offer a harder edge line in contrast with my organic brush marks.” Her boldly expressive use of mixed-media harkens to Robert Rauschenberg’s “Combines”, while her color treatment has been compared to that of Abstract Expressionist Helen Frankenthaler. By infusing personal significance into each work, Luloff depicts moments of fleeting, hazily beautiful remembrance.
