About the work
Lee Kit 李杰
Chinese, b. 1978
Follow

In his installations, video and audio recordings, and mixed-media works, Lee Kit focuses with quiet intensity on the condition of being human. In his words: “I am interested in human experience and emotions, be it private, public, personal or collective.” By highlighting the mundane daily activities of his own life, in works that allude, for example, to his hygiene and studio habits, he demonstrates how we are all reflected in our homes and in basic acts of living. Kit’s poetic approach resonates with audiences worldwide: he represented Hong Kong at the 55th Venice Biennale with his installation, You (you) (2013), a homelike space that served as a self-portrait. He is best known for the hand-painted cloths he has been producing for more than a decade, presented as utilitarian objects bearing traces of their use and, simultaneously, as fine art.
