LeRoy Neiman, ‘Satellite Football’, 1982, Baterbys Art Gallery

LeRoy Neiman is one of the most popular and collectible American artists of today even after his death. He is well known for his brightly colored impressionistic depictions of sporting events. Color was important to Neiman, and the tones of his paintings are vivid and almost gaudy. Neiman followed in the tradition of French Impressionists like Renoir, Degas, and Toulouse-Lautrec who created work inspired by everyday life and culture.
