Born in New York and living in Jersey City, Leslie Sheryll has spent most of her life creating art. She received a BFA with a major in photography from Kansas City Art Institute. Sheryll has also created environmental installations, sculpture and jewelry.
Currently her work explores gender and the psychological restrictions imposed (whether outwardly or subconsciously) upon women to conform to certain ideals. She uses nineteenth century tintypes as a vehicle to construct and define this visual language.
