About Lin Tianmiao

Lin Tianmao uses installation, textile, and mixed media to transform ordinary objects into sculpture. While often described as a feminist artist, Lin chooses to eschew this label, believing it primarily to be a Western conceit. Her work incorporates materials and objects typically associated with women: she binds and encapsulates household objects like tea kettles or bowls with white thread, or pierces and reworks photographs. Lin draws inspiration from Ann Hamilton, Barbara Kruger, and Kiki Smith for her largely textile-based practice.
