Born in Beijing, trained in Paris, and based in Brooklyn, Lin Yan produces minimal forms that resonate with complexity and nuance. Her primary medium is Xuan paper, a traditional Chinese paper that is handmade especially for ink paintings. In Give Me a Title- H (2010), ancient cultural technique marries modernist abstraction as soft Xuan paper raggedly frames an asymmetrical rectangle of ink. Lin Yan’s work is included in the collection of the National Art Museum of China, and she most recently was featured in a solo exhibition at the Eslite Gallery in Taipei.
