About Lina Bertucci

In the 1970s, while working as a brakeman on the Milwaukee Railroad, Lina Bertucci began her artistic career with a series of black-and-white photographs documenting the gritty railroad subculture. Pursuing her interests in portraiture and the American landscape, Bertucci has photographed artists on the cusp of success, remote natural vistas, and women baring bodies covered with tattoos. Bertucci tries to pierce the surface of her subjects in her starkly formal, exquisitely sensitive photographs, revealing the emotional resonance of a landscape or the inner life of her sitters.
