Lucas Michael, born in Argentina, received his B.A. at the Rhode Island School of Design, and lives and works in New York City. His practice spans video, performance, drawing, sculpture and installation. Through these varied avenues, seeking to explore, speculate and question issues of identity, gender, sexuality and the multiplicity of the self while placing pressure on the integrity of the art object. His work has been exhibited at The Hammer Museum and Getty Center in Los Angeles; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Bahia Blanca, Argentina; S.M.A.K. Museum, Gent, Belgium; Apexart and White Columns in New York City; Frieze London; NADA Miami and NADA NY, among others. His Polaroid portraits appear regularly in New York Magazine and he was a contributing photographer for Peter Halley’s legendary Index Magazine.
