Lucia Koch stages various architectural interventions in order to disrupt viewers’ tendencies to focus on the content of a space over its architecture. To create this effect she enacts a range of manipulations, adding light filters and translucent materials, altering skylights and facades, and pasting images of three-dimensional spaces to walls. These acts cumulatively create a tension between the interior and the exterior and challenge the limits of particular spaces. Koch’s work reflects her broader political concern with the livability of generic, mass-produced structures.
