Lucong (Cong Hua Lu) was born in 1978 in Shanghai, China. At the age of 11, he immigrated with his family to Muscatine, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa with B.A. degrees in biology and art, Cong moved to Denver. There he followed his calling and began his career as a painter. With almost no formal training, Cong developed distinctive styles that quickly garnered acclaim. In 2003 he was called a "rising star" in the Denver art scene by the local newspaper. In 2004 his works were exhibited with some of the most recognized representational painters of the Western United States at Denver's Gallery 1261. In 2005 he became the youngest artist invited to participate in the prestigious Salon d'Arts show in Denver. Also in 2005 he made Southwestern Art Magazine's annual "21 artists to watch under the age of 31" list. In 2007 Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine named Cong as one of five "Today's Masters Making Their Marks." In May 2009, the painting "Ms. Kimberly" was featured on the cover of American Art Collector's Magazine.
