About Lucy Williams

Lucy Williams fabricates low relief collages that depict Modernist architecture using geometric shapes, modular patterns, and flat planes of color. Williams’ collages facilitate a dialogue between the artist’s labor-intensive process, representing the traditionally feminine domain of craft, and the bold masculinity associated with the structures depicted. In her re-creation of the Modernist architectural style, Williams also alludes to the utopian ideals of architects such as Mies van der Rohe, allowing remnants of these aspirations to live on in her meticulously crafted artworks.
