About Maarten de Ceulaer
In the imaginative mind of Maarten de Ceulaer, design can be a vehicle for telling stories. His breakthrough came with his graduation project for the master’s program at Design Academy Eindhoven, “A Pile of Suitcases,” a series of functional and adaptable furniture designs made from repurposed traveling trunks and suitcases. The project earned him the 2007 Dynamo Young Belgian Designer Award. Other projects continue to showcase the designer’s sense of humor and inventive approach, including the Mutation series of furniture, made of interlocking foam spheres that call to mind mutating cells, and the Balloon bowls, made of plaster molded between two inflated balloons.
