About Marc Yankus
The gauzy images of photographer Marc Yankus seem to evoke hazy memories. The artist, who began his career working in collage, reverses the process by making his own images into collages through the addition of layers of texture from scans of old tintypes, books, and found images. He also digitally composites still life works in a collage-like manner, creating intimate and surreal landscapes with undefined narratives that hint of childhood, loss, memory. Yankus is attracted to the inherent beauty of the urban environment, the romanticism of old architecture, and the detail and care that is part of the urban landscape, particularly in his native New York.
