About Marcus Tremonto
Marcus Tremonto is an artist who draws with light—an interest that was sparked by a poorly lit New York loft. With an eye toward the future, he has experimented with carbon fiber to create a cascading ribbon light fixture, used electroluminescent paper to make a pixelated light-bulb lamp, and created augmented-reality pieces that viewers can interact with using smart phones. The technologically minded designer studied physics and mathematics before getting his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and founded Treluce studios with his wife and partner Monica Tremonto in 2002. His quirky visual humor and interest in vintage toys and cartoon culture lead to the creation of a line of Lightbotz for Kidrobot, as well as a playful collaboration with Nike.
