About Marine Hugonnier
In her films, photographs, and works on paper, Marine Hugonnier investigates how images are formed and how they shape human perception. She attempts to demonstrate that images are never neutral, but rather are loaded with the politics, history, and aesthetic conventions of the time and place of their production. In her “Art for Modern Architecture” series (2004-) she conceals the photographs on the front pages of newspapers with colorful geometric shapes, challenging viewers to comprehend the news unaided (or unhampered) by accompanying images.
