Mark was born in 1969 in Detroit Michigan and lives in LA. A self-taught painter, his works can be seen in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and the world. Mark Acetelli’s paintings awaken the sense of exploration and adventure. They demand a new discovery. They reveal chemistry of complexity and spontaneity, lyrical abstraction of the painter’s marks, many of which previously lay hidden, buried beneath strong layers of self-taught expression. Those truths, first obscured and then obvious, aim to engage each viewer in the image, allowing each explorer to his or her own interpretation.

Mark’s artworks are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever changing complexities of love, loss, birth and death. His latest series is entitled “Absence and Presence”, pertaining to how someone or something can be physically gone, but the essence still remains. Capturing the physical mixed with spirituality on canvas. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. His artworks are a product of continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed.

Mark’s artworks in oil may be painted over four or five times with the past lying just beneath the surface of the present in each incarnation, adding to its overall dimension and depth. In his work he seeks to evoke a feeling rather than depict a defined image. Mark uses primarily oils, found objects, and encaustics to create thickly layered and textured canvases, with emotive bursts of color over an earth toned palette of which words, phrases and random thoughts vaguely reveal their message.

This artwork is framed in a floating frame with acrylic glass. Size and price include frame. It is wired and ready to hang. A certificate of authenticity and hanging hardware is included.

About Mark Acetelli

Using oil paints and found objects that he builds up and scrapes away to create layered, textured compositions, Mark Acetelli depicts featureless, anonymous figures that verge on abstraction. He has explored wide-ranging, universal themes including love, loss, and notions of absence and presence. Acetelli works in a palette dominated by earth tones, which he punctuates with colorful accents, and has said that he aims to produce works that capture “the elegance of decay” and evoke a feeling rather than a defined image.
