This is a clever saw-cut nickel plated aluminum jigsaw sculpture by Mark di Suvero. This piece can be interlocked in multiple formations in order to create a truly three-dimensional arrangement. The flexibility in its configuration makes it a good example of Abstract Expressionist sculpture. All of these works, including this one, have slight scratching and imperfections on the surface due to soft plating and natural use, but overall in very good condition. (see jpegs)
Like a puzzle, this piece can be assembled in multiple configurations, allowing for a sense of multi-dimensionality the artist excels in with his work. Interlocking forms can be twisted around in endless arrangements, pushing the boundaries of traditionally conceived sculpture and truly exemplifying di Suvero’s pursuit of abstract expressionism in a three dimensional form. The listed dimensions represent the work as it looks fit together. The piece is in very good condition, with minor surface rubs and abrasions.

About Mark di Suvero

Working in the tradition of David Smith and Alexander Calder, Abstract sculptor Mark di Suvero builds colorful and monumental outdoor sculptures. His works incorporate steel, wood, railroad ties, scrap metal, moving or swinging parts, and, most characteristically, industrial I-beams. Using a masterful welding technique to work on all of his sculptures himself, di Suvero integrates found objects and cast-off industrial materials into bold, expressive compositions. His practice is seen by many as a close approximation of the Abstract Expressionist concerns with material, gesture, and form typically found in painting.
