mark petersen lives and works in oakland california. he describes himself as having CIMD(compulsive image making disorder) playing in paint dirt wood and sucking up images with a camera.
born in utah in 1953. jump forward in time............he is a father was a teacher on levels kindergarten to university level art, a museum preparator and registrar art supply store manager and art and antiques appraiser. at an auction house. once he learned what there was to be learned he moved on.
he has studied at utah state university university of utah and in the desert alone he briefly was teaching assistant to wayne thiebaud and joseph raffael, as well as V. Douglas Snow (Marlborough Gallery). hung out for a while and drank a lot of wine with william wiley and larry bell. met zao wu ki after a lecture and spoke for 10 minutes when he was 18. was blindsided with information. met shunru suzuki the same year and was wacked (see painting "big wack" based on one of their conversations. lived in utah until 1989 moved to san francisco oakland the woods of humboldt county off grid and then back to oakland berkeley and now back to oakland. centered here.
