About Mark Sheinkman
Mark Sheinkman is known for exploring linear abstraction through the process and presentation of his paintings and drawings. Sheinkman’s works frequently contain ribbon-like lines, grids, and complex lattices in monochromatic compositions. He creates his works in layered additive and subtractive processes; as a result, each work is also an illustration of the passage of time and transition. In his recent paintings, for example, he lays down a base of paint on canvas, followed by a layer of graphite powder; he then creates his composition by removing portions of the graphite, covers the surface in a new layer, and repeats his actions. Sheinkman has also created installations for billboards and works on paper and scrolls.
