About Markus Weggenmann
Markus Weggenmann uses high-gloss car paint to create bright paintings with clean lines and bold delineation of forms. While the works are not completely abstract, Weggenmann calls them “the abstract idea of painting,” his images lying somewhere between gestural and representative. First creating the compositions in gouache, Weggenmann then has the paintings scanned, printed, and sent to an auto body specialist to be reproduced with industrial-grade paint. The resulting works have a stunningly flat surface, seemingly impenetrable and devoid of any imperfections.
