Max Gatta, born in Montréal, holds an MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art, USA; a BFA with Distinction, Studio Art and a BA in Philosophy from Concordia University in Montréal, Canada. His work in painting and print media is characterized by a simplified realist style that is most often generated from found images. The resultant works suggest underlying narratives of a social nature, but place emphasis on a spiritual and existential consciousness rather than on any direct social critique. Max Gatta’s work has been widely collected and can be found in the permanent collections of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre (Kingston); the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (USA); Global Public Affairs (Ottawa); GlaxoSmithKlein (Quebec) and numerous private collections worldwide. His printed works and artist’s multiples have appeared at Art Metropole and Open Studio (Toronto). He is based in Toronto, Canada.
