Maxwell Sterry, ‘TEXT MESSAGING’, 2012, ARTE funktional

‘TEXT MESSAGING’ is a ceramic installation where the artist explores how this participatory culture has had a major impact in the world. Such a very influential and powerful tool has changed the way people communicate, where the world seems to be a lot smaller and more inclusive, where the "people's power" has made possible new forms of interaction that were not possible before.
The act of text messaging has had a major repercussion on the political world, changing the reality of people around the globe, says the artist. This ceramic installation speaks of a desire for a better future… as Mahatma Gandhi said: If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against violence, we shall have to begin with the children. (The artist was 16 years old at the time).
