About Melissa Gordon

Melissa Gordon is interested in how history is presented in narratives and images, the assumptions we make about these representations, and how our assumptions evolve over time. Incorporating diverse imagery, from traditional heraldic patterns to crowd scenes found on the internet, Gordon’s three-dimensional installations reference theater-in-the-round and indulge in the theatricality of revisiting moments and events from the past. By compressing, cropping, and abstracting her source imagery, Gordon expands (and deconstructs) the simplified narratives that they have accumulated over time.
