About Meriç Algün Ringborg

Working with language and texts in many different forms—spoken, written, and projected, drawn from novels, reference books, and government documents—Meriç Algün Ringborg explores how our words and our ability to express ourselves impact our lives. Her wide-ranging projects have included mixed-media and site-specific installations, video and sound pieces, and collages and various other works on paper. Through them, she reveals the tension between coherence and nonsense in modes of everyday communication we often take for granted. As she once described, a deep concern with identity and how it is shaped by language influences each of her diverse projects: “A thread that runs through [my work] can be formed within questions of language and expression. To express oneself is a very powerful and privileged thing; one that should not be taken for granted.”
