About Michael Corridore

Rather than document the world, photographer Michael Corridore searches for the fiction in real moments. Fascinated by consumers of automobile culture, he photographed spectators at races and burnout contests for his series “Angry Black Snake”. He describes these images of hazy figures enveloped in smoke and dust as “unreliable documentary,” because while they depict actual scenes, they offer no insight to what is really going on, or as Corridore phrases it, “they don’t tell the right stories.” One could easily mistake the images of urgently gesticulating people in a smokey atmosphere for escapees of a burning building. According to their publisher, “each image pulses with palpable emotional tension, telegraphed by these barest of representational sketches and the subtle shifting colors of the clouds that descend upon each scene like a flimsy curtain.”
