Michael Cran, ‘Nice Package #3 Unknown’, 2013, Wilding Cran Gallery

About Michael Cran

Though Michael Cran primarily works in sculpture and painting, his training in various artistic mediums and techniques, including wood product design, mixed-media art, fiber arts, metalwork, and theater, influences his practice. His past series have included large, kinetic wooden sculptures that play with balance, gravitational pull, and negative space. His current series, “Nice Package” is comprised of shallow-relief, wall-mounted sculptures whose forms are molded from post-consumer packaging. In speaking about his own artistic interests, Cran once said “Some objects are like ducks’ backs. [sic] Attention rolls off them and stares the viewer back in the face. How does that work? This is my task, and my joy.”
